Three days in Golden Gate Park
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass ran Friday, October 2, Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, 2026, across Hellman Hollow and the Lindley and Marx meadows in Golden Gate Park. The organiser states this is a free event with no tickets needed, and admission carried no gate price.
A group planner works this festival from the housing channel, the PTA-run paid lots and the four park entrances.
The housing channel is a referral
The organiser's hotels section carries one instruction. Call the Chamber of Commerce, use a travel site, or contact the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau for assistance. Visitors can book rooms directly on www.sfvisitor.org. They can also request assistance from the Visitor Information Center at 415-391-2000, or toll free at 888-782-9673.
The referral is the whole housing channel. A coordinator who wants a held allocation builds the terms with the property.
Four entrances and the arrival clock
The festival published four entrance points: JFK Drive and Transverse Drive, Fulton Street and 30th Avenue, JFK Drive and 36th Avenue, and the South Polo Field entry at Middle Drive and Metson Road.
Entrances opened at 11am on Friday and at 9am on Saturday and Sunday. Performances ended at 7pm each day. Security at each entrance includes walking through body scanners and may include a physical search of bags and belongings. SFPD, K9 and tactical units were positioned inside and outside the venue.
Paid parking run by school parent groups
The organiser expected paid parking, run by local PTAs, on a first come first serve basis at a few lots on Saturday and Sunday. Last year the participating lots were George Washington High School, 600 32nd Avenue, entry at 30th Avenue between Geary and Anza; Argonne, 680 18th Avenue, entry at Cabrillo between 17th and 18th Avenue; Lawton Alternative School, 1570 31st Avenue, entry at 30th Avenue between Kirkham and Lawton; Lafayette Elementary, 4545 Anza Street, entry at 36th Avenue between Anza and Balboa; and the SFUSD Admin Campus, 750 25th Avenue, entry at 25th Avenue between Cabrillo and Balboa.
The lots are independently owned and operated, and the festival cannot guarantee access to parking on the dates or times specified. Parking in the neighbourhoods around Golden Gate Park is extremely limited.
Muni, taxi and rideshare for a group
Muni serves the north side of the park with the 5 Fulton, 5R Fulton Rapid, 31 Balboa, 38 Geary and 38R Geary Rapid buses. The south side is served by the N Judah train and the 7 Haight/Noriega bus. The 29 Sunset runs through the park on Crossover Drive. Extra Muni service ran on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at regular fares.
Taxi stands sat on Fulton from 22nd to 24th. Rideshare drop-off and pick-up sat around Washington High School, on 30th Avenue between Anza and Balboa and on Balboa between 30th and 31st. Pick-ups sat on Irving between 25th and 27th Avenue. The organiser notes that rideshare apps allowed pin drops only from the designated area.
ADA wristbands and the cart fleet
Accessibility Ambassadors staff a tent along JFK and 36th Avenue, adjacent to Gate 3. They distribute wristbands to guests with mobility issues. The wristbands provide golf cart access up and down JFK, and the organiser limits them to the attendee with disability and one companion.
ADA parking sits along JFK west of Chain of Lakes on a first come, first served basis. The cart fleet is one wheelchair accessible vehicle and three standard carts. Cart service runs from the opening of doors until about 6:15pm, halts for crowd safety, resumes at about 7:15 and ends at 7:30pm.
Four accessible cart stops sit on JFK. They serve Lloyd Lake for the Banjo and Arrow stages, Marx Meadow for Rooster, 30th Avenue for Swan and Towers of Gold, and the 36th and JFK event entrance.
Streets closed around the park
The organiser lists JFK Drive between Transverse Drive and Bernice Rogers Drive, 36th Avenue between Fulton and JFK Drive, 30th Avenue between Fulton and JFK Drive, Transverse Drive between Crossover Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Overlook Drive between Transverse and Middle Drive West, Middle Drive West between Transverse and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and Metson Drive between Middle Drive West and MLK.
The list continues with the parking area at the Polo Fields at North Stables and on Metson Drive, plus MLK westbound between 25th Avenue and Chain of Lakes. Golden Gate Park allows no camping. The organiser points to Rob Hill Campground in the Presidio and an RV park by Candlestick.
What a group coordinator can put in writing
Four items belong in a written request to a property. Ask whether the hotel will hold rooms for a free, unticketed event. Ask for the nightly rate, the deposit and its due date, and the attrition clause. Ask how the property handles a group that arrives without a manifest. Ask what the hotel charges for a late checkout on the final night.
The festival publishes a community hotline at 415-406-9014, monitored from 11am to 7pm on October 2 to 4, 2026.
