The Indiana High School Athletic Association publishes the 2026-27 boys swimming and diving calendar on its sport page. First practice falls on November 9. First contest falls on November 23. Sectionals run February 18 and February 20. Diving regionals run February 23. The state finals run February 26 and 27.
The association carries the season controls in its 2026-27 Sports Seasons at a Glance document. The boys swimming and diving row lists a contest cap of 18, an in-season roster deadline of November 20, a tournament entry list deadline of February 11 and an officials rating period of January 11 to 18.
February 26, 2027 is a Friday. February 27 is a Saturday. The IU Natatorium lists the IHSAA boys championships on those two days on its own events page. The IHSAA lists the Indiana University Natatorium at 901 West New York Street as the finals site on its 2025-26 tournament page.
The Entry List Closes February 11
The entry list deadline is the first date a block decision can rest on. The list closes on Thursday, February 11, 2027. That date sits 15 days before the Friday preliminaries. The IHSAA set the same gap in the prior cycle, with a deadline of Thursday, February 12, 2026 ahead of the February 27, 2026 preliminaries.
Every school entering a swimmer or a diver appears on that list. The count sets the outer bound of the demand.
The Field Settles Later
Qualification runs through two further rounds. The sectionals on February 18 and February 20 produce the swimming qualifiers. The diving regional on February 23 produces the diving qualifiers.
The advancement rule sets the travelling party. First-place sectional winners in each event qualify for the state finals. A contestant who equals or betters the state time standard in a sectional championship or consolation final also qualifies. The field then fills to 32 entrants in each event. In diving, first through fourth place at a sectional qualify for the regional, and first through eighth place at the regional qualify for the finals.
A school learns its travelling roster three to eight days before the finals. Ask the hotel to take a provisional hold at the entry list deadline without a rooming list.
Two Stages For The Block
Cut the block in two stages. Stage one is a provisional hold on the nights of February 26 and 27, placed in the second week of February when the entry list closes. Stage two is a firm rooming list after the sectional and regional results, three to eight days before arrival.
The two-stage shape protects the group. The block holds rooms through a qualification round the school does not control. The contract sizes itself on the confirmed roster.
Put three questions to the hotel. Will it accept a provisional hold before the sectionals, and what is the cut-off date on that hold? What deposit does it require on a February 26 arrival, and when is the deposit due? What happens to the deposit if the school does not advance?
What 5,200 Connected Rooms Change
Visit Indy publishes more than 9,400 hotel rooms downtown, with 5,200 of them connected to the Indiana Convention Center. Its connected-hotel page counts 12 hotels and 5,200 connected rooms, and more than 10,000 rooms within walking distance of the convention center. The JW Marriott Indianapolis carries 1,005 rooms and anchors Marriott IndyPlace, a group of five interconnected Marriott brands with 2,276 rooms.
A school group can split across two or three connected properties. Ask the hotel for a rate at two connected properties and ask each to state its deposit terms in writing.
The Trip To The Natatorium
The skywalk package links hotels to the Indiana Convention Center. The Natatorium sits at 901 West New York Street on the IU Indianapolis campus. Ask the hotel for the trip from its door to that address, for the bus drop-off point and for the parking arrangement for family cars.
The IHSAA publishes no housing block, no room rate and no booking cut-off for the finals. The boys sport page and its tournament page carry no hotel term.
The February Calendar At The Venue
The Natatorium events page, updated September 2, 2026, carries four February 2027 bookings. The Jaguar Aquatics Winter Invitational runs February 5 to 7. The IHSAA girls championships run February 12 and 13. The Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships run February 17 to 20. The IHSAA boys championships run February 26 and 27.
Four weekends in one month fill the same seating bowl and the same warm-up pool. Ask the hotel whether a February 26 block competes with a Horizon League block for rooms.
What Families Paid In 2026
The IHSAA published the 2025-26 finals ladder. The 2027 ladder is not yet posted. The prior cycle ran digital admission through Eventlink, with sales opening Monday, February 23, 2026 at 9 am Eastern. General admission cost $15 per session. A limited number of $35 reserved tickets covered both days, at a maximum of eight per purchase. Children five and younger entered free in general admission seating.
Families pay per session, so a two-session weekend carries a ticket cost on top of the room. Put that cost in the block budget.
Terms To Close Before The Sectional
Collect one written confirmation. The nightly rate for February 26 and 27, 2027, plus the Thursday, February 25 rate for a school that travels the day before the preliminaries. The deposit amount and due date. The provisional-hold policy and its cut-off date. The rooming-list deadline and the name-change fee. The attrition percentage and the penalty formula. The room release date and the penalty on a release after that date.
The block decision belongs before the February 18 sectional. The entry list closes a week earlier.
