What to Ask Before You Sign
Ask for the pickup report from the previous edition. Ask which nights the hotel withholds from the block. Ask for Saturday October 3 and Wednesday October 7 priced apart from the three core nights. Ask what the release terms are at 30, 21 and 14 days out. Ask whether a firm cut-off date buys a lower contracted minimum. Ask whether an exhibitor-driven booking window changes the deposit schedule. Ask what the hotel charges for rooms added after the cut-off.
Set the cut-off where the block stops paying for rooms it will not fill. Then release the rest.
